Social Media: The Ultimate E-Commerce Guide to Marketing Your Business Online by Richard Platt

Social media has become a way of life for millions of people, and if your business does not promote itself on at least one major platform, then you could be losing out on a substantial income.

In order to be successful on sites like Facebook, Youtube and Instagram, you need an up-to-date marketing strategy, and Social Media: The Ultimate E-Commerce Guide to Marketing Your Business Online and Making a Passive Income by Richard Platt is a brand new, up-to-date guide that aims to help you succeed.

In its first two chapters, the author discusses why you need social media and how to choose platforms most suitable for your blog/business. A very useful list of industry types which are most suited to each platform is included. Of course, when you have chosen your platforms, you may decide that as your blog expands, you may need to ditch the ones that aren't working for you - I have certainly done this! But, at least, chapter 2 will set you on the right path.

Chapters 3 to 12 give information about using each platform, starting with Facebook and ending with Tumblr. Some chapters are more comprehensive than others, but the chapters on Facebook, Youtube and Instagram are particularly good, and show you step-by-step how to use the platforms in a way that will make you successful.

However, it all goes a bit Pete Tong when you reach the Pinterest chapter. This I found to be rather sparse and disappointing, and the use of the English language here makes it rather awkward to read. Indeed, some of the later chapters in the book read like they have been put through a content spinner - this is a program which takes existing content and attempts to re-write it, often with poor results. It truly feels as if the author was in a rush to get the book finished.

The final Tips and Tricks chapter is particularly disappointing, and just one tip is given (yep, just one!) which is to hire a mentor.

It is such a great shame that here we have a book which feels incomplete. The chapter about Tumblr is sparse and made little sense, as were the chapters on Pinterest and Snapchat, which made for difficult reading. The whole layout of the book needs to be formatted more neatly, with spacing between the sub-headings and each paragraph.

It is quite bizarre that after so much effort was put into the first few chapters, the author would choose to ruin the whole book with several poor chapters.

Nonetheless, the price of this guide is very low (as I write), and if you plan to use the biggest social media platforms then you'll find this guide very useful indeed.
