How to Start a Blog and Make Money by Kim Komando

There are now around 30 million blogs online, which means that starting a blog has become more popular than it has ever been. It's a great time to start a blog, but the task can be pretty daunting.

This is where How to Start a Blog and Make Money could help you. Penned by the best-selling author and USA Today columnist Kim Komando (that's a great name, don't you think?), the ebook certainly has an appealing and straightforward title. But will it live up to expectations?

I find Kim Kommando's writing style to be perfect for this publication, in that it isn't flowery or rambling, and is mostly to the point without feeling too cold. The ebook has been thoughtfully and clearly laid out with a good use of headings and sub-headings. It's also grammatically excellent.

The book is ideal for the blogging novice who needs advice on every aspect of starting a blog. However, I would like to have seen more information in the Blogging for money chapter, with more advice on using ad networks and affiliate marketing, and also some more info on using social networks would have been useful.

Nonetheless, there is much to like about this book, and it will certainly provide you with a lot of essential advice and inspiration for creating and running a successful and profitable blog.

Mark's Rating:

  • Thoughtfully written
  • Clear layout
  • Easy to understand
  • Lots of useful advice for beginners
  • Lack of info about social networks
  • Affiliate marketing advice is sparse

In the opening passage, Why should you start a blog? you will discover what a blog can do for you, although it doesn't answer the question directly - only you can truly answer that one!

The first chapter Start with a strategy for your blog is a good starting point. Who exactly is your blog aimed at and do you have a clear direction? Indeed, it's pretty vital to know exactly what your blog's subject matter will be. Kim discusses choosing your niche, naming your blog, developing a blogging and content strategy, who is your competition? when will you post content and how much content should you post? There is some pretty solid advice here.

Set up your blog discusses some of the most popular platforms you can use with a list of pros and cons. These include Wordpress, Squarespace, Wix, Blogger and Medium.

The third chapter Start creating content includes advice on finding potential topics, choosing and researching keywords, setting out your content, your introductory paragraph (very important for SEO and gaining attention from your reader), and your blog post body.

Blogging for money is the fourth chapter. The ultimate goal for many blogs is, of course, to make money, and Kim discusses your options such as an ad network and affiliate marketing.

How to distribute your content discusses social networks, building influences and staying searchable, although only the basics are covered and it would have been nice to have seen more depth about this.

You'll discover many useful tips to help you fine-tune your blog posts and increase their readability in the sixth chapter How to be an effective blogger, as well as a list of useful tools to help you.

The final chapter reveals Common mistakes bloggers make. Although some of these may seem like common sense, it's surprising how many blogs make these crucial errors. This is a useful checklist to help you avoid them.

The author ends with One last thing, which features wise words and inspiration to help set you off on the right path.

Blogging Made Easy by Amen Sharma, Rumena Begum

Available in paperback and Kindle edition formats, Blogging Made Easy is aimed at both newbies and established bloggers, and will help you attract more visitors and increase online exposure.

It begins with a bio and case study of one of the authors, Rumena Begum, a fashion and beauty blogger based in London. There is also a case study of Katie Corio, an online fitness coach living in San Diego, although she's not listed as an author.

Okay, so there is an incredible amount of information to digest in Blogging Made Easy. However, the chapters are rather inconsistent in their depth of detail, with some areas covered comprehensively, and others just skimmed over.

There are a number of problems, too, with the freebie links no longer working, and there are a few grammatical errors, which is unacceptable from a team that are supposed to be pro bloggers. An update is needed to remove the Google + section and broken links.

This is certainly a book that newbie bloggers will find very usefu…

Affiliate Marketing Ultimate Guide 2019 - The $10,000 per Month Foolproof Method

If you wish to earn money from your blog, then you should seriously consider affiliate marketing. Affiliate Marketing Ultimate Guide 2019 by Ronald Roberts is a very comprehensive guide on the subject, and when I say comprehensive, I mean it!

Many chapters are huge and packed to the rafters with advice. Not all of the advice I agree with, as you will find out, but there is certainly a lot of excellent information here to digest.

The author goes into great detail about what affiliate marketing actually is, discussing the main players, how to sign-up, and which networks you can join. However, it would have been useful to have been given links to the networks from within the ebook.

Some of the affiliate networks mentioned I would not recommend. For instance, JVzoo's products are mostly terrible, making pie in the sky promises which will leave your customers very dissatisfied - as I did - which is not good for your reputation. Clickbank's products are mostly pretty similar, in th…
